Compare the Subaru Foresterto the Ford Escape and Chevrolet Equinox

SUVs are some of the most competitive options on the market, and our team wants to help you see which is right for your lifestyle.

While the Subaru Forester, Ford Escape, and Chevy Equinox each come with a powerful performance and wide range of features, only one can be perfect for the needs of your life. We hope that our comparison allows you to find the model you will love for years to come.

Subaru Forester vs Ford Escape

The first thing you'll notice is that the Forester comes with a more competitive starting price than the Ford Escape does, but that doesn't mean it leaves out any of the features you really want. Subaru Symmetrical All-wheel drive is standard on the Forester to help you maintain the best traction and control through harsh conditions, but you need to pay more to add all-wheel drive to the Escape. You'll even be getting more horsepower from the base engine of the Forester than the base engine of the Escape, continuing to prove you don't need to pay more to get more.

Not only does the Subaru Forester outclass the Escape in terms of standard performance, but it is a better option for your adventures because it has more cargo space than the Escape. The Forester maxes out with up to 74.3 cubic feet of cargo space, while the Escape only offers up to 65.4 cubic feet of cargo space.

Some of the interior features of the Escape are standard features for the Forester. Automatic climate control will further drive the price of the Escape up, but the Forester includes it from the base. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ come standard on the Forester, but the Escape needs to be upgraded to include the SYNC 3 infotainment system for the same features.

Subaru Forester vs Chevy Equinox

The Equinox is an attractive option in design and has a variety of impressive features, but even it does not topple the Forester. The Forester continues to hold the top spot with a lower starting price and the same, or better, standard features than the Equinox. The Subaru Forester gives drivers more horsepower than the Equinox and has standard all-wheel drive, while the Equinox only has it available. Power is directed through a Continuously Variable Transmission for the Forester and a six-speed automatic for the Chevy Equinox.

The Forester remains unbeaten if you are comparing the important specs for road trips. The Chevy Equinox falls almost eight cubic feet short in passenger space, more than ten cubic feet short in max cargo space, and has less ground clearance than the Forester. Being able to let your passengers bring all their gear without cramping it around their seats while getting over any obstacle that stands in your way is the right choice for your next outing.

Much like the Forester, the Chevy Equinox comes standard with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ to ensure you always have access to your favorite media and apps. The standard screen for the Equinox is slightly larger than the screen of the Forester, but they can each be upgraded to eight inches.
