Compare the Subaru Outbackto the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V

Compare the Subaru Outback to the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 at Ciocca Subaru of Pleasantville

An SUV should offer versatility, comfortable seating space, conveniences, and plenty of power under the hood - a long checklist for some lineups. Thankfully, the new Subaru Outback isn't a regular lineup. The Outback boasts standard technology and capability, enhancing the quality of your drive with great off-road capability and more modernized advancements than you may know what to do with!

However, the Subaru Outback isn't alone in its segment. The lineup contends with popular rivals like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, making it challenging to choose the best for your lineup. We encourage you to check out our comparisons below to see how the Outback excels and why you should consider it as your next SUV today!

Subaru Outback vs. Honda CR-V

It's no shock that the Subaru Outback comes with the standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, paired with X-MODE® for surefooted control over your drive. The iconic AWD system optimizes engine output and increases all-wheel drive system engagement, giving you improved traction control on low friction surfaces. The Subaru Onyx, Onyx XT, and Wilderness editions feature the dual-function X-MODE® with Hill Descent Control, allowing you to handle deep mud, snow, and other adverse road conditions confidently. The Honda CR-V can provide a comfortable driving experience, but its all-wheel drive system isn't standard. If you want to equip it on your new CR-V, you'll need to pay an additional $1,500. You also won't have access to the X-MODE® system in the Honda lineup.

Both SUVs offer comfy, cozy interiors, giving you seating space for five passengers and ample room for your luggage and gear. The Outback offers 109 cubic feet of passenger space, more than the Honda CR-V can offer. The Subaru Outback enhances your drive with the STARLINK® Dual 7.0-inch Multimedia system, complete with standard wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone connectivity. You can also find an 11.6-inch touchscreen, the largest option available in its class! The recent Honda CR-V is only standard with a five-inch touchscreen, with an available seven-inch screen barely matching the Subaru Outback Base model. Honda provides Apple and Android smartphone integration, but you'll need to plug in to utilize it.

Subaru Outback vs. Toyota RAV4

When you want to take adventures off-road, you need an SUV that can keep up. The Toyota RAV4 may offer its all-wheel drive system on every model in the lineup, but you'll need to pay $1,400 more to equip it, costing you more on monthly payments. You won't have to worry about this with the Subaru Outback, thanks to the standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. The Outback also equips X-MODE® standard, with dual-function enhanced X-MODE® optional, a system you won't find anywhere in the RAV4 lineup. In the Subaru SUV lineup, you'll find an available 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that produces 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. The RAV4 will limit what you can do with its 2.5-liter engine, the only option for its model lineup. You'll get 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.

When you're looking for more space to stretch out and enjoy the ride, you might not find the Toyota RAV4 as accommodating as the Subaru Outback. The Outback gives you up to 109 cubic feet of interior passenger space for its two rows - the Toyota SUV doesn't even crack 100 cubic feet, making it more of a challenge to fit everything you want to include for the ride. If cargo space is more your interest level, the Subaru Outback can fit up to 75.7 cubic feet of space. The RAV4 is behind once again, only accommodating 69.8 cubic feet.
